Year 3 update

This page is updated every two weeks - w/c 2nd February

Message from the teachers

Dear Year 3 Parents and Carers,

What a number-filled week the children had with a Maths workshop all about how making mistakes is part of learning and solving mathematical problems and Number Day. Next week we have Roman Day on 13th February where children will meet a Roman Gladiator who will teach them all about life during the height of the Roman Empire. We cannot wait to make our history and literacy units come to life!

A few favours:

1.) Practise Multiplication and division- Currently, we are working on 2 digit by one digit multiplication and division. During this time it is important that you continue to practise at home so that children can continue to grow in confidence.

2.) Junk Modelling Materials- next week we will spend the afternoons working on our 3D Scultpures Art Unit. If you could please send your child in with any cardboard like cereal or shoe boxes by Monday 9th February, that would be great!

3.) Recorders- After the half-term break, children will start Recorders. Please send your child in with their recorder by 23rd February with their name clearly on the recorder itself. If you do not have one and need to order one a link is here.

Volunteering Ormsby School

Ms Marshall is looking for volunteers to help each Year group create a painting on canvas to be bid on at the auction of promises. We have historically made a lot of money auctioning the year group paintings. We are looking for parent volunteers to help the children create their painting - artistic skills are helpful but not required! If you can spare some time in the upcoming month and would like to volunteer, please contact Ms Marshall with your name and year group or speak to your class teacher. lucymarshall@hollymount.merton.sch.uk

Have a good week!

Your Year 3 Team

You can still donate for Number Day below:

Everything the NSPCC does protects children today and prevents abuse tomorrow.

NSPCC Number Day makes maths meaningful and is a great way to make numbers fun and bring about a positive, ‘can-do’ attitude towards mathematics.

  • We will be taking on Buddy’s Key Challenge in our classes to help raise vital funds for the NSPCC.
We will be working to solve exciting maths puzzles in our classes, against the clock with Buddy, the Speak out. Stay safe mascot.
  • We will be having a fun day of maths activities, and we will be taking part in Dress up for Digits. Pupils are asked to wear an item of clothing with a number on it (sports top, football, rugby, netball, hockey shirt or cap). Or get even more creative and become a human calculator, dice or domino by dressing in a maths or numbers theme. To help raise money for the NSPCC, we are asking for donations, and we’d love everyone in the school to take part in this special event.
