Message from the teachers

Dear Year 2 Parents,

We have had a fantastic term in Year 2 and the children have continued to show enthusiasm, resilience and curiosity across all areas of their learning. We are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved and were delighted to finish the term on such a positive high.

In Geography, we have enjoyed exploring oceans and seas, learning more about different parts of the world and developing our understanding of our planet. In Art, the children created imaginative maps using a range of pastels and mixed-media techniques, producing some wonderfully creative and colourful work.

In Maths, the children worked extremely hard to complete their unit on fractions, showing growing confidence when finding and recognising halves, quarters and thirds. We have also recently started our new topic on time. Every year, this can be quite a tricky topic for the children, so we would really appreciate your support over the half-term break in helping them to become more familiar with analogue clocks. In particular, please practise recognising when the minute hand is pointing to o’clock, quarter past, half past and quarter to the hour.

In English, the children thoroughly enjoyed creating their tadpole posters, where they combined their knowledge and writing skills to produce informative and beautifully presented pieces of work. We have also been incredibly impressed with the children’s poems following our tadpole topic. They showed great creativity, thoughtful vocabulary choices and fantastic enthusiasm in their writing.

In Science, we have completed our topic on plants and the children have loved observing how plants grow and change over time. They will be bringing their seedlings home so they can continue caring for them, watching them grow and hopefully produce flowers and eventually runner beans.

We were also very lucky to have our very own beekeeper, Amelie, visit us on World Bee Day. Dressed in full beekeeping gear, she talked the children through the fascinating process of beekeeping and shared lots of interesting facts about bees and how important they are to our environment. The children were incredibly engaged and asked some fantastic questions. A big thank you to Amelie!

Just a quick reminder that jewellery and toys are not allowed in school. If your child has had their ears pierced, they are required to wear small stud earrings only for safety reasons. Thank you for your support with this.

As we come to the end of the term, we would like to thank you for your continued support throughout the year. We hope you all have a restful and enjoyable break.

Kind regards,

The Year 2 Team

A message from Miss Madriaga about Computing:

Dear Parents,

In our computing lessons, the children are learning the basics of programming through fun and creative activities. To help develop their understanding further at home, you may wish to download the free ScratchJr app onto a phone or tablet.

ScratchJr allows children to create their own simple games, stories, and animations while practising important coding skills in an engaging way.

Thank you for your continued support at home.

Miss Madriaga
