Cultural Celebration

You get to make a lot of decisions as Headteacher, some please the majority, some please just the few but none have pleased people as much as when we made the decision that children could wear their own clothes on their birthday! It has been lovely because it has allowed for the children to feel super special on their big day and to celebrate with their friends. It has also encouraged others from across the school and in different year groups to speak with the children and wish them a good day.

Building on this success, we are improving the way we celebrate different cultures by encouraging children to (if they wish) wear clothing that represents a cultural celebration that they are also celebrating outside of school.

This could include wearing red for Chinese New Year, traditional attire for religious celebrations such as Eid or Diwali, or any outfit that reflects a meaningful cultural event. With so many traditions across our community, we want to create opportunities for children to share their heritage, express their individuality, and bring their excitement from home into school.

At this stage, we are keeping things simple and open-ended, allowing the initiative to grow naturally as we see how children and families engage with it. There are no strict rules—just an invitation to take part in a way that feels right for your family and child.

We look forward to seeing how Cultural Celebrations evolve and the ways our community embraces and learns from each other. Thank you for your support in making Hollymount a place where every child feels seen, valued, and celebrated.
